Google executive Dan Fredinburg was killed on Mount Everest in an avalanche triggered by the massive earthquake that hit Nepal on Sunday. He was responsible for company’s highly secretive innovations laboratory – Google X.
Dan Fredinburg was responsible for security in Google X, the company’s highly secretive innovations lab. Its projects varied from unmanned vehicles taking digital photos for Google Street View to the Project Loon, aimed at covering remote areas with Internet access using balloons flying in the stratosphere.
One of the Fredinburg’s missions to Everest was delivering Google Street View camera to the top of the highest mountain in the world.
After a 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal, killing more than 3,800 people and injuring at least 7,000, Google has launched a People Finder tool allowing its users to look for victims or post information about people as well as text messaging.
Many charities and NGOs also provide medical assistance in the field along with other aid."
