Read What Popular Trekker Did For Chibok Girls

Suleiman Hashim is no longer a man whose name does not ring a bell in the ears of the world, especially among Nigerians following his alleged record-breaking trek from Lagos to Abuja to congratulate the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.

The 33-year-old first reported person to have trekked from Lagos to Abuja, on Tuesday put his name in the history books of Nigeria again.

Hashim yesterday reportedly trekked from Berger Junction to the Unity Fountain, Abuja, in solidarity for the campaign for the Chibok girls.

Speaking to a Leadership correspondent at the Unity fountain in Abuja after the two hours trek, Hashim revealed that he had embarked on the short journey as solidarity with the cause of the kidnapped Chibok girls in order to promote awareness that these young girls need to be brought back quickly.

Hashim, who is now referred to as the traveller, further disclosed that he never embarked on the trekking to gain fame, fun or any form of publicity. He said it was a way of showing commitment and fulfilment of his determination to keep making a case for the improvement of humanity.

According to him, he has never indulged in any long walk before now, but usually goes on a morning jog. He said Buhari’s victory and the Chibok girls abduction propelled his decision, and went on to promise that he would sacrifice and continue trekking to raise awareness.

The traveller also stated that he is ready to use his new-found fame to touch the lives of the masses, adding that in any little way he could if given the opportunity, he will not hesitate to do so. He said he is committed to keep using his trekking ability to contribute to whatever that will benefit humanity.

Hashim, however, cleared the air and dismissed speculation that he was given an appointment by the president-elect. He said the papers that were seen exchanged between him and General Buhari were letters sent through him from the villages he passed through while coming from Lagos state.

The traveller asked to meet Buhari again after he has been sworn-in as the president of Nigeria, so that he can present more requests of the ordinary citizens to him.

Meanwhile, the Berger junction to Unity Fountain trek was tagged: “solidarity walk for our Chibok girls.” Hashim was reportedly joined by some members of the #BringBackOurGirls ‎group in the solidarity walk.

Hashimu made a personal promise in 2013 that if Buhari won the 2015 presidential elections, he would trek from Lagos to Abuja.

When Buhari was officially announced the winner of the March 28 elections, Hashimu was forced to fulfill his promise. On April 20, 2015, he arrived in Abuja from Lagos amid cries of welcome, excitement and surprise.

The Chibok girls were abducted from their school, Government Day Secondary School, Chibok, a community in Borno state, on April 14, 2014, by members of the radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

The Nigerian government through its numerous security operatives have combed everywhere in search of the girls but all to no avail. Nigerians and the girls parents are still hopeful as they patiently wait for their safe return."
