Protest in Ilorin against release of hoodlums

Scores of protesters marched on some streets in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Monday against the release of some hoodlums who had unleashed mayhem in the metropolis a few weeks ago.
The protesters, who were mostly traders and the youth, also marched to the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu-Gambari.

They carried placards with different inscriptions against release of the hoodlums.

The protesters expressed deep regret for the development, saying that they had heaved a sigh of relief when the hoodlums were arrested.

One of the protesters, who identified herself simply as Jumoke, said the development was sad and called on the royal father and the government to intervene.

She said, “We got information that the hoodlums, who attacked us a few weeks ago, are back.

“The hoodlums are even threatening reprisal.”

Zulu-Gambari urged the protesters to be calm and assured them that he would convey their grievances to the appropriate quarters.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okesanmi, said the police did not release the suspects.

He said, “The suspects have been arraigned, but were granted bail by the court.”
