Fire Out-Break Kills Waec Student..

Mubarak Gidado, a 16-year-old final year pupil, sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination in Bauchi State, has died of burns.

He was engulfed by fire when he tried to start a generator which went up in flames; he died two days later.

President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, as the new Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr Obi’s appointment was announced on Monday.

According to the presidency, his appointment is to take an immediate effect.President Jonathan also confirmed the appointment of the Acting Director General, Mounir Gwazo, as the Director General of the Commission."

Ola Raji,a 20 year old Nigerian, was stabbed to death last week Tuesday while cycling through an estate in Peckham, near a community centre founded in memory of murdered schoolboy, Damilola Taylor.

According to reports, Ola was shot three times and stabbed by two men who ambushed him around 10.30pm. The men fled after the attack and Ola later died in hospital.

Aisha Alhassan, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Taraba state governorship election, has rejected the result of the poll announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference in Jalingo shortly after the announcement of the result, Alhassan described the entire elections process as a “daylight robbery’’ and said the party would challenge the results at the election petition tribunal.

Ondo State Deputy governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi has been impeached by members of the State House of Assembly this morning. 22 out of the 26 lawmakers supported the motion for his impeachment which was moved by the majority leader Ifedayo Akinsoyinu from Ondo West 11 and seconded by Olatunji Dauro from Owo 11‎.

The deputy governor has been directed to vacate the government lodge and return all government property in his possession to the permanent secretary in his office.
