Total Blackout In Nigeria As Shiroro Power Plant Suffers System Collapse

The already bad state of electricity supply across the country was made worse on Sunday following of a system collapse at the Shiroro Hydro-electric Power Plant in Niger State.

The Shiroro plant has a power generating capacity of 600 megawatts and began operation in 1990.

Taurai Dodzo and Thomas Chacha made the claims at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday while applying for referral of their case to the Constitutional Court. 

The two are being represented by lawyer David Hofisi. “The accused persons’ fundamental right to freedom from torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and right to human dignity as enshrined in Sections 53 and 51 of the Constitution were contravened,” Hofisi said. Newsday reports:

Lecturer In A Fight With Student In Oduduwa University Ife (Photos)

It happened around 1 pm yesterday at oduduwa university Ife.

A student came late like 5minutes to the mid semester exam and the lecture refuse to give him the answer booklet, as a sharp guy he walked up to the lecturer and told him he needed answer booklet but the lectuer refused and ask him to leave although the guy left and also told the lecturer that what he’s doing is bad, the lecturer felt bad about this and decided to teach the young man a lesson in the exam hall.

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed the ministerial lists in circulation on the social media as fake because his ministers will not emerge the way the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) picked members of its Federal Executive Council (FEC) in the last 16 years.

Buhari made this known in an exclusive interview he granted senior editors of Daily Trust at his country home in Daura, Katsina State on Tuesday.

Protest in Ilorin against release of hoodlums

Scores of protesters marched on some streets in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Monday against the release of some hoodlums who had unleashed mayhem in the metropolis a few weeks ago.
The protesters, who were mostly traders and the youth, also marched to the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu-Gambari.

They carried placards with different inscriptions against release of the hoodlums.

President Jonathan Sacks NIPS Boss, Announces Replacement

President Jonathan today May 18th sacked the Executive Secretary, Nigeria Investment Promotion Council, Saratu Umar .

Her sack comes months after aggrieved staff of the NIPS called on President Jonathan to remove her from office over allegations of highhandedness, staff intimidation and gross incompetence.

Pres. Jonathan announced Uju Hassan-Baba as the acting Executive Secretary of NIPS.

Xenophobia: South Africa Repatriates 5,645 Immigrants

South Africa has repatriated 5,645 foreigners since the end of xenophobic attacks in late April, the government said yesterday. A Minister in the Presidency, Jeff Radebe, who said this in a statement, added that the foreigners chose to leave South Africa voluntarily.

Malawians made up the bulk of the foreigners, numbering 3,506, followed by Zimbabweans (1,440) Mozambicans (682), while Tanzanians had (17). Mr. Radebe said the repatriation process started soon after the latest spate of xenophobic violence ended in April.
